I like how these chapters were all grouped together about the circus. Seems crazy to drive all across the country to find new freaks for the show. This elephant sounds a lot smarter than most people are giving it credit for. I am sure August beat the crap out of it after the stunt with Marlena, stupid to put it in the show when its not even trained - could have killed her but this Uncle Al just looks for the crowds - he is crazy for sure! I was wondering when Jacob was going to make a move on Marlena - who knows how that will turn out but I am sure something else will.
Interested to see how this elephant will turn into a larger player in the show and what more happens between Jacob and Marlena.
The animal abuse in this book is killing me but I have no doubt that it's pretty true to the times. I'm glad that Jacob and Walter are now friends though what an... "interestin" way to create a friendship and of course everyone at the circus knows about it - how mortifying. I wish Jacob with kick Agust's ass - I know he'd lose his job and probably his life but that bully is really ticking me off... and so is Marlena, quit being a wuss and stand up for yourself! But I know, women didn't do that during that time. I worry about Rosies future...
