This book is different from the previous books we have read. Its more of a romance. The author is very descriptive. Sometimes I think too descriptive. At the beginning of the book when she is describing her brother in law and sister and comparing them to herself I got a bit impatient and wanted to just skip over it. But so far it's a pretty good story.
I am amazed by how she is treated. I realize this is before the womens suffrage movement, but wow. Could you imagine being tested like that today. I am sure we would end up punching someone in the face. It is really too bad that her family doesn't even support her. One thing I do not like is how the author makes it look like all men are just pigs. Like there isn't a decent man in the world. I get that she is trying to prove a point about Robert's situation, but jeeze come on.
Grady is supposed to be her love interest I suppose. Even with all the authors descriptions he doesn't "look" that handsome to me. But I suppose if he was handsome he might have been married by now. Too bad about his wife. Very sad.
I agree, it was very different. Your typical romance though. A storyline behind the woman and some guy comes in and wins her heart. I was amazed she wrote this story back in that time frame but of course divorce did occur, it just wasn't as public and massivly frowned upon back then. Roberta was a strong character and really had to stand up for herself alot - her brother in law deserved to get a massive ass kicking, I would have enjoyed that a lot! Not a ton more to say on the book, I like how it turned out. Gabe seemed to be a great fit for her and they hashed out a lot of their "issues" It was pretty predictable but an enjoyable read overall - probably would not read again but was worth a shot :)
