Wow - this guy sure has a vivid memory of his life in the circus. Its funny how he keeps worrying he won't remember Rosemary's name but all these stories are like you are there with him. Sad how his family visits once a week and just passes the time like its a duty, he really misses his wife. The story of all the animals in the circus are amazing. So sad the horse had to die and how they disposed of him - This August character is very interesting
Just the thought of all the spoiled bloody meat sloshing on Jacob still makes me gag! I feel so bad for silver star but at lease the meat went to a good use - those poor animals cramed in that train with no food and hardly any water. Then you had Jacob having this wonderful meal with August and Marlena while the rest of the people are probably eating slop if anything... Circus life is not for me! Older Jacob is so cute. I wish his family was better to him but I'm glad Rosemary, at least for now, seams pretty good to him. Can't imagin puting my folks in one of those places let alone having to be there myself...
I love the details of this book. I can really imagine what it must have been like to be in the circus. Not that that is something I would like to do. The difernces in the class structure inside the circus are huge. Some poeple get showers, some get clean water in buckets, and some are lucky if they get the water from a trough. Pretty Crazy.
